Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the PLAB 2 course, learners will have acquired the following competencies:
- Recognize and respond to patients experiencing clinical deterioration or cardiorespiratory arrest, following the guidelines set forth by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
- Conduct patient-centered consultations in a systematic and organized manner.
- Engage in meaningful and clear discussions with patients regarding their medical conditions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in essential clinical skills at the foundation year 2 level, including blood sampling, arterial venipuncture, male catheterization, intravenous cannulation, per vaginal and per rectal examinations, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, and urine dipstick examinations.
- Perform systematic examinations on both acute and stable patients in various specialties, including Respiratory, Neurological, Cardiovascular, Abdominal, and Rheumatological.
- Write legally sound prescriptions with clear handwriting.
- Identify and rectify common errors in the prescribing process.
- Effectively manage challenging consultations with empathy and sincerity.
- Conduct safe telephone or video consultations.
- Understand the complexities of maintaining patient confidentiality while discussing illnesses with relatives.
- Skillfully obtain a focused medical history, accurately interpret findings, and arrive at provisional diagnoses.
- Perform focused examinations on both acutely unwell and stable patients.
